Thoughtful Thursdays – A few words on assumptions
Today’s thought is about assumptions and reducing the number you make.
We make assumptions every day, intuitively assessing the risks and making decisions based on personal experience and historical information. We cross the street on green lights assuming that opposing traffic will stop on their red light, but wisely keep an eye out just in case.
In business, the consequences of making assumptions can be equally undesirable.
Make fewer assumptions and reduce the risk of having an unhappy customer by:
- Clarifying expectations, yours and the customers
- Asking for clarification if you are not sure
- Sticking to your process
- Not taking short cuts
- Following up
- Trusting your intuition
- Knowing the risks for the decisions you make
Fewer assumptions means more informed decisions, smoother transactions and happier customers.
Good selling,
Richard
