Thoughtful Thursdays – Never underestimate your competition
Some of my most satisfying closes have come as a result of the competition underestimating our capabilities. On the other side of the coin I have felt the pain of losing business as a result of overconfidence.
Today’s sales thought is about staying ahead of your competition.
Here are a few points that, if you make a habit of being mindful of, may help you from underestimating your competition.
- Do not rest on your laurels
- Be aware of all resources that are available to you and put them in your sales too kit
- See more than what is just in front of you (be insightful)
- Stay current with your industry trends
- Stay current your customer’s industry trends
- If appropriate, stay current with your customer’s customer industry trends
- Visit your customer on a regular basis
Underestimate your competitor and you risk opening the door. Ignore the signals and you are holding the door wide open for them to walk in and potentially take the business.
Avoid those nasty sales surprises. We all know how difficult it is to regain lost business.
Good selling,
Richard
