Thoughtful Thursdays – Now that’s customer service!

On a regular basis I have dinner at a restaurant before heading to the theatre. The service is consistently good as is the quality of the food.

I cannot recall being disappointed with any of the entrees over the several years of dining there… until this week.

I ordered a steak, medium rare and was surprised that it was cooked more on the well done side of medium. Medium rare was not anywhere to be seen. When the server came back to ask how the meal was, I noted that the steak was over cooked, but there was no need to send it back as the other person the table had received their main and re-ordering would only mess up the timing. The steak tasted fine in spite of it being cooked more than I wanted.

Shortly the he maître d’ came buy to offer her apologies on behalf of the restaurant. In and of itself, this was more than enough of a gesture to keep me coming back. What she said next demonstrated superb customer service: “We would like to take care of your entre this evening Mr. Sakanashi.”

Now that’s customer service!
