Thoughtful Thursdays – New to outside sales?
If you are new to outside sales, congratulations and welcome! Yes I am biased and know that sales it is not for everyone, but for those who take to it, there are few better jobs. Whether you were waiting for the opportunity or you accepted the offer reluctantly, the practical experience you have the opportunity to gain from being an outside sales representative is extremely valuable. You will learn and improve transferable skills that today are not even on your radar. Trust me 🙂
If you take a few moments to think about it, sales has a lot to offer:
- You are paid not to be in the office
- You may have a company vehicle or be receiving a car allowance
- Your travel expenses are reimbursed
- You have the opportunity to meet an engage with new people on a daily basis
- You are paid to help
- Much of your time is your schedule
The list goes on and on, but I digress. So you are new to outside sales. There is no better time to put good practices in place that will serve you well throughout your career.
- Seek out mentorship from seasoned sales veterans
- Seek out mentorship from the sales support team
- Ask lots of questions and listen to the answers
- Learn to be a better listener every day
- Learn to give your undivided attention to people
- Be on time
- Make structure work for you, not against you
- Enjoy the experience, there are few better
Good selling,
Richard
