Thoughtful Thursdays – Make a good first impression
Using the ‘shoe on the other foot model’, think about situations where you have been turned off by less than positive first impressions. Now consider how much extra time it takes for that poor first impression to be reversed.
Increase your chances of making a good first impression by developing a list of good behaviours that will help make that good first impression. It is like a pre-flight check list.
A good first impression is a key contributor to a shorter sales cycle.
- Prepare for your meeting in advance. Did you do your research?
- Do you know the name(s) of the person/people you are meeting with
- Check yourself the mirror before you leave home – everything clean and tidy?
- Bring your pen and notebook?
- Bring appropriate brochures/technical data/portfolio
- Be happy
- Arrive early
- No chewing gum
- Firm handshake
- Be yourself and only yourself
- LISTEN
- Help, don’t sell
Remember that given a choice, people buy from people they like.
Good selling,
Richard
