Thoughtful Thursdays – Make yourself famous…
…because no one else will. Today’s thought was inspired by conversations about social media with new business owners.
There is no question about the impact social media has had on business. An impact so significant that many believe it will be their ticket to success. It may be, but the reality is that success is unlikely if social media is only marketing activity.
The operative word in social media is “social”. You want to have people talking about your business rather than you talking about it. People will talk about your business if they have a good experience and shout about your business if the experience is not satisfactory. Word of mouth will take care of itself, you must also be committed to making yourself and your business known.
The probability of success will increase as the reliance on others decreases. In other words, make yourself famous.
Consider social media as one marketing tool in your basket of resources, not the basket of marketing resources. The further you get from real time personal communication, the less effective that communication will be.
If you want to be successful, get out and talk to your prospects in real time and in person.
Good selling,
Richard
