Thoughtful Thursdays – Getting back to basics
There is an abundance of excellent information about sales available online and traditional media.
So much, in fact, it may be confusing. In my experience it there is not one approach that works for everyone. They are as varied as the personalities you encounter.
I have learned there are common characteristics that when consistently demonstrated will help pave the way to sales success.
- Respect your peoples time – you are not the only one who is busy
- Be yourself – nothing less
- Show enthusiasm about the products/services you are representing – how do you expect your prospect or customer to be interested if you are not
- Smile – it says a lot
- Say thank you – show appreciation
- Listen more than you talk – how else will you find out their needs
- Help, don’t sell – facilitate rather than tell
- Make it an enjoyable experience – they will look forward to seeing you again
It sounds simple, but it is interesting how one can forget what works when experiencing information overload. It comes back to treating people the way you probably like to be treated – back to basics.
Good selling,
Richard
